The Department of Technology and Workforce Learning offers a Master of Science Degree with a Major in Career and Technical Education. Within the Family and Consumer Sciences emphasis, the program will equip with and enhance skills in leadership, research, FCS professional knowledge and pedagogy. Pedagogical courses may be tailored to your professional needs such as curriculum and training development, utilizing assessment tools, incorporating technology in programs, working with special populations, or understanding current trends and issues. The program is designed to support FCS teachers and non-teacher FCS professionals.

Online Coursework
Designed for working professionals, the 30-hour program is delivered 100% online, allowing you to balance your education with your career.
FCS departmental scholarships are available. Students are encouraged to apply beginning October 1 but by February 1 for awarding the following academic year.

The Plan of Study lists 6 credit hours of restricted pedagogical courses, but these can be substituted to align with a student’s professional goals. Options include courses in leadership, program resources, interpersonal relationships, development, and more.

Options available for the degree
Option I: Thesis
This option is designed to prepare students for a doctoral program, for advanced professional careers, or for students wanting to complete an in-depth research experience.
Option II: Coursework
This option requires completion of coursework that demonstrates evidence of advanced coursework in an area of concentration. Departments will require evidence of competency through activities such as research papers, portfolios, practice, internships, comprehensive exams, or other individual work. Students should check with their major department for specific requirements for the coursework.

Pittsburg State University has partnered with Kids Feeding Kids to offer affordable graduate credit for educators participating in the Summer Educator Institute (SEI).
Course Information
- FCS 840 Advanced Applications (SEI) – 2 credit hours for completion of the 3-day Summer Educator Institute.
- FCS 840 Advanced Applications (SEI Curriculum) – 1 credit hour for implementation of the SEI curriculum after the institute.
2026 Tuition: $119 per credit hour
Acceptance into the KFKids SEI is required before applying to Pitt State.
Application and course enrollment may be retroactively initiated for up to one year after completion of the SEI or implementation of the SEI curriculum, depending on which FCS 840 course is selected.
