Pittsburg State University is dedicated to promoting a safe educational setting for everyone on our campus. Hazing is unacceptable and will not be tolerated by any organization or individual member of Pittsburg State University
Pittsburg State University provides prevention and awareness programming related to hazing twice per year to registered student organizations, with one program specifically aimed at new fraternity and sorority members. The campus community is reminded that hazing is prohibited and are provided information regarding how to file a report, how reports of hazing are investigated, and information regarding local, state and national organization affiliation laws and policies.
Pittsburg State University has also brought in national programs and speakers to educate not only on hazing, but on bystander intervention, ethical leadership and personal accountability. This past year, three programs were held on these topics. Community members are also provided information regarding how to strengthen group ties without engaging in hazing behavior.
The Stop Campus Hazing Act went into effect on January 1, 2025. It requires all institutions of higher education to make available a Campus Hazing Transparency Report. Hazing is prohibited under Kansas state law, federal law, and Pittsburg State University policy. If a recognized student organization is found in violation of the hazing policy within the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities (link to code) the incident shall be made available in the Campus Hazing Transparency Report.
Regardless of a violation of policy being determined or not, all reports of hazing within Pittsburg State University’s jurisdiction will be listed in the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report.
The Campus Hazing Transparency Report only includes violations of Pittsburg State University hazing policy by recognized student organizations.
