The Goal of the PSU Research Colloquium is to increase awareness and celebrate research activities happening on our campus by showcasing the works of our graduate and undergraduate students. Listed below, you will find details regarding the Research Colloquium and a breakdown of the expectations for each category.

Research Colloquium Information

Guidelines

The Research Colloquium welcomes participation from all PSU graduate and undergraduate students, as well as local high school students. Student research may include presentations on faculty research projects, class research projects, or independent projects. Proposals can be submitted in the following categories: 

  • Category A: Sciences and Technology 
  • Category B: Business, Education, and Humanities 
  • Category C: Creative Works 
  • Category D: Topical Literature Review 
  • Category E: High School 
  • Category H: PSU Honors College Students 

Requirements

  • Registration: Participants must submit the registration form by March 5, 2026. Abstracts must be submitted at the time of registration. 
  • Oral Presentations: Each speaker will have 20 minutes allocated, including a 12-minute presentation and a 7-minute Q&A session. Presentations should be prepared using PowerPoint. 
  • Research and Topical Posters: Set up your poster in the Overman Student Center Crimson & Gold Ballroom on April 9, 2026, from 8:30-11:30 am. Poster size should be 4 feet by 3 feet (Landscape). Submit an electronic copy of your poster by March 30, 2026, to receive reimbursement for printing expenses. 
  • The Research Colloquium Committee reserves the right to re-categorize research projects if necessary. 

Awards

  • Awards will be given for each category.  
  • An overall winner will be selected across all categories. 

Abstract

All projects require an abstract/summary of approximately 300 words highlighting the importance and significant outcomes of your research. Abstracts will be provided to judges before oral presentations and poster viewings. 

Judging

    • Oral Presentations: Scheduled on April 9, 2026, from 8:00 am - 1:00 pm at the Overman Student Center. 
    • Posters: Displayed on April 09, 2026, from 1:30 - 4:30 pm at the Overman Student Center Ballroom. Each presenter will give a five-minute presentation and answer judges' questions. 
    • Judging will be conducted by faculty and staff, with separate evaluations for different categories. 

     

    Presentation Evaluation Criteria by Category 

    Presentations in all categories should expand upon the content of the submitted Abstract/Summary. Each presentation will be evaluated based on the following criteria: 

    • Clarity of Purpose: The introduction clearly states the research objective or creative intent. 
    • Organization: The presentation follows a logical and easy-to-follow sequence. 
    • Evidence and Analysis: Arguments are supported by sufficient evidence, demonstrating critical thinking and depth of understanding. 
    • Delivery and Engagement: The presenter speaks clearly, engages the audience, and maintains effective communication. 
    • Conclusion: The conclusions are well-reasoned and appropriately drawn from the research or creative process. 

     

    Judging will be based on these standards across all categories: 

    • Category A: Sciences and Technology 
    • Category B: Business, Education, and Humanities 
    • Category C: Creative Works 
    • Category D: Topical Literature Review 
    • Category E: High School 
    • Category H: PSU Honors College Students 

    Each category will be judged separately to ensure a fair evaluation relevant to the discipline and academic level.
