Overview
Family and Consumer Sciences at Pittsburg State University is one of two Family and Consumer Sciences programs in Kansas and is known for getting students involved in professional development opportunities that will lead to employment across the nation. Students in the Family and Consumer Sciences Education area are known for their active participation on the state level in both Kansas and Missouri. Because of the national teacher shortage, graduates can find jobs in every state.

The current demand for graduates of this program is very high. Most graduates have their choice of up to 10 jobs depending on the region where they would like to live. Students studying in the area of FCS Education at Pittsburg State University experience a variety of hands-on learning opportunities both in the classroom and in the community. They are guided by dedicated faculty who see every student’s potential to find his or her own level of success. Students in this program earn a significant number of scholarships.

About Family and Consumer Sciences Department
The Department of Family & Consumer Sciences offers baccalaureate degrees and a cooperative master’s degree program. B.S. programs are offered in Community and Family Services and two tracks in Child Development. A B.S.E. program is offered in Family & Consumer Sciences Education. The department is also a partner in the Early Childhood Unified program housed in the College of Education. The department offers minors in Child Development, Human Ecology, and Youth and Adolescent Development. The department also contributes to minors in Women’s Studies and Public Health.
