President Thomas Newsom

In June 2025, the Kansas Board of Regents appointed Dr. Thomas Newsom as the 11th president of Pittsburg State University. He will begin work the first week of September. Until then, Pitt State's Vice President for Business, Finance, and Facilities Doug Ball will serve as interim president.

Pitt State has embarked on an ambitious strategic plan that lays the foundation for the University's future growth and success. This comprehensive roadmap focuses on enhancing the overall student experience, promoting belonging and inclusion, expanding research opportunities, and strengthening community partnerships.

Pitt State Recent Initiatives

Associate of Arts initiative

The AA initiative was authorized in 2023 by the Kansas Board of Regents and Pitt State will be the first university in Kansas to automatically confer the degree as students earn it.

Athletic Success

Investing in modern and well-maintained athletic facilities, hiring experienced and skilled coaches, and building a strong fan base to foster community support.

Gorilla Rising

A new building for the Kelce College of Business will become the keystone anchor of downtown Pittsburg.

CHC SEK Partnership

The Bryant Student Health Center partners with CHC SEK to expand the accepted insurance of students, services available, and streamline healthcare processes.

Student Success

A one-stop shop for the advising and academic support of Pitt State students. They will be assisted from enrollment through graduation.
