What is Civil Rights Compliance?

Pittsburg State University does not discriminate in employment, educational programs, activities, including with respect to applications for enrollment. The University prohibits discrimination against any person on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex – including pregnancy, age, physical or mental disability, military or veteran status, protected genetic information, marital status, parental status, or an any other basis as provided for by law.  The University also prohibits retaliation as provided by law.

The Civil Rights Compliance & Title IX leads efforts to promote and uphold this policy and its goals, foster equity and opportunity, strengthen relationships across diverse groups, and support a campus culture of equality for all members of the University community.

The Civil Rights Compliance & Title IX also strives to foster an campus environment that embraces the talents and achievements of all individuals regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, marital or parental status, ancestry, genetic information, gender identity, gender expression, military or veteran status, or disabilities.

To fulfill our commitment, the Civil Rights Compliance & Title IX provides:

  • Oversight of and support for the University's efforts to comply with all applicable federal and state civil rights laws and Pittsburg State University's policies prohibiting discrimination, harassment, and retaliation
  • Consultation, training, and resources to the University community regarding equal opportunity, affirmative action, diversity, and preventing discrimination, harassment, and retaliation
  • A mechanism for responding to complaints of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation
  • Formal and informal conflict resolution to University faculty, staff and students who are experiencing employment-related or educational-related conflicts
  • Facilitation of individual accommodations for current or prospective employees with disabilities who choose to identify
  • Oversight of the recruitment process for all Unclassified positions while monitoring the procedures for University Support Staff positions
