ITS Internship Purpose and Summary:

The purpose of the ITS Internship Program is to offer real world IT experiences for PSU students enrolled in university courses that offer credit for, or require an internship experience. It is the goal of ITS to provide students with a rigorous learning experience that results from direct involvement in an IT project.

ITS will select PSU student interns who are enrolled in courses that require an internship experience. ITS will work directly with academic departments regarding the correct course name and number that aligns with the selected student. ITS will target internships for Fall or Spring semesters given the costs to students of Summer semester courses.

However, a Summer semester internship is not out of the question depending on student enrollment during summer.   During the internship semester, each student will be involved in a project that fulfills course requirements.

Initial Areas of Internships:

  • Infrastructure and Security:

Maintenance, troubleshooting, and expansion of voice and data networking infrastructure (wired and wireless). Documenting and organizing the data center.

Information security work on policies, audit reports, educating campus on common practices, etc.

  • Development and Implementation:

Development work, coding, documentation, team collaboration on projects, and much more.

  • Project Management:

Managing projects, documentation, gathering information, collaborative work with both ITS and campus stakeholders outside of ITS.

  • Marketing:

Develop campaigns, communication plans, and marketing tools for various rollouts across campus.

ITS Will:

  • Require an interview process for the interns
  • Identify a small committee who will interview students
  • Create objectives for the internships that are acceptable/approved by the departments offering the credit
  • Create a 'test' of skills during the interview process (if appropriate)
  • Request an exit interview of interns in order to improve the experience for future interns
