What are exchange programs?

Overview

  • PSU has exchanges with sister universities around the world that allow PSU students to pay PSU tuition while studying abroad
  • Exchanges are great options for students looking for semester or year-long programs
  • You can take classes in English or in the host country language
  • You will be attending as a visiting student and be enrolled in class with host country students

Affordability

  • Students on exchange pay PSU tuition and can use financial aid
  • Full-time, degree-seeking PSU students pay PSU tuition for the courses attended abroad and pay room and board to the host institution
  • Other costs may include passport costs, visa costs, airfare & in-country transportation, international medical insurance, health consult, & personal expenses

Language

  • Students who apply for non-English speaking exchange universities and plan to take classes in the language of the host country must have a recommendation from the Modern Languages and Literature department. If the language of the host institution is not taught at PSU, contact the Study Abroad Coordinator.
  • Many of the universities have course offerings in English, but these courses may be limited and may change from semester to semester.

Classes

  • To find potential classes abroad, navigate the partner university's website and look for available classes in English. You may need to look at a past semester's course offerings to see what could be available for the semester you would like to go abroad.
  • Don't hesitate to ask the Study Abroad Coordinator about which program would best fit your studies at PSU. Students who have already studied at our exchange schools are also great contacts in order to understand what the courses are like abroad.

Housing

  • Most students studying on exchange stay in a dormitory or an apartment recommended by the partner university.
