Gorilla Rising–Support the Legacy
Downtown Pittsburg is rising — again.
Through the Gorilla Rising project, Pittsburg State University is breathing new life into a historic landmark and building a bold new home for the Kelce College of Business. This visionary initiative supports economic growth, community connection, student opportunity, and the preservation of our city’s downtown identity.
To ensure this impact lasts for generations, we're launching a campaign to create a $1 million endowment to support the ongoing maintenance and programming of our downtown facilities — including the Besse Hotel renovation and the new Kelce College of Business — in perpetuity.
Our Goal: $1 Million in 1 Year
This endowment will ensure Gorilla Rising continues to benefit students and the Pittsburg community far beyond its completion. The funds will support:
- Maintenance of the Besse Hotel and new Kelce Business facility
- Programming and staffing for community-facing services like the Center for Reading and University Testing Center
- Public access enhancements and digital storytelling
- Future innovation and growth tied to PSU’s downtown presence
- Expanding impact through innovation and outreach
Naming Opportunities
As we build for the future, we honor those who help make it possible. Donors to the endowment will be permanently recognized through digital displays in the Besse Hotel and online.
Recognition Levels:
- $100 – Name listed on website and digital donor wall
- $1,000 – “Storyteller” level: Name, story, and photo displayed
- $5,000 – Featured video segment + all above
- $10,000+ – Ribbon-cutting recognition + all above
Naming Opportunities (Limited):
- Second Level Collegiate Room
- Rooftop Sign
- Ground Floor Donor Wall (digital and permanent options)
Share your story
As we move forward, we want to capture the stories of the past and connect them to our vision for the future. Share your experience, your family’s connection to downtown Pittsburg, or your vision of PSU’s future.
