Basic Skills Requirement


Admission to the Teacher Education program at PSU requires the submission of an ACT composite score of 22. If your ACT score does not meet this minimum requirement, you may petition CARTE for the right to meet the basic skills requirement using one of the following options:

SAT minimum combined score of 1120 for tests taken after March 1, 2016; 1730 for tests taken prior to March 1, 2016

CORE assessments measure competency in reading, writing, and mathematics skills.

  • C-Base Dates and Registration

C-Base Examination Dates:

  • Saturday, September 12, 2020 (registration period: 8/19-9/9)
  • Saturday, November 14, 2020 (registration period: 10/21-11/11)

Registration for the C-Base must be completed in person at the Testing Center, 206B Whitesitt Hall. The cost is $55.00, payable by cash or check only, and is non-refundable. Testing Center hours may be obtained by calling 620-235-4267.

  • CORE Registration Information
The Core Academic Skills for Educators (CORE) is a computer-delivered exam.  The test can be taken at any Prometric Testing Center according to their available schedules.  Registration is completed by going to www.ets.org/praxis.
  • Praxis Subject Assessments
The Praxis Subject Assessments are designed to be taken by students and individuals planning to enter the teaching profession as part of the certification process required by many states and professional licensing organizations.  The Praxis Subject Assessments should be taken at the end of a student's teacher education program.  The test can be taken at any Prometric Testing Center according to their available schedules.  Registration is completed by going to www.ets.org/praxis.

PLT Workshop Dates


All workshops are the same and consist of the following:  a practice test, review of responses, and a review of general test-taking strategies.

Please sign up for the workshops in advance to ensure that the appropriate amount of materials are available. A sign-up sheet is posted outside of 110C Hughes Hall, or you may contact Steve Brown for reservations. On the date of the workshop, report to 110 Hughes Hall at least five minutes prior to start time.
