Psychology Graduate Program Applications

 The application deadline for Summer or Fall Semesters is March 1 and for Spring Semester is October 1.

Thank you for your interest in applying for admission to one of the following programs in the School of Psychology and Counseling:

  • M.S. General Psychology
  • M.S. Psychology (Behavior Analysis)
  • M.S. Clinical Psychology
  • M.S. School Counseling (Pre-K to 12)
  • Ed.S. School Psychology

Applicant Requirements

  • Undergraduate GPA of 3.0
  • 79 IBT, 6.5 IELTS total band score (no score lower than 5.5), 53 PTE, or Duolingo 110 (no section score under 100 for students whose primary language is not English)

Graduate Application Procedure

Admission to Psychology and Counseling graduate study in the department requires that students submit the following:  

Step 1. Graduate Studies Application

Apply for admission and be accepted to Pitt State Graduate School. Start an application for admission or contact the Admissions Office at (620) 235-4250.

Step 2: Submit Official Transcripts

Official transcripts of all courses and degrees previously received must be sent directly to the Office of Graduate and Continuing Studies, from the appropriate registrars.

Step 3. Psychology Program Application

Start your psychology program application and email to psych@pittstate.edu.

The Application Fee is $40, payable to the Department of Psychology and Counseling. 

Step 4. Background Check

The background check is completed electronically through the University’s third-party vendor. The pre-employment screening includes a criminal background check, a fiduciary check, and a sex offender registry check.

Start your Disclosure and Authorization Form and email it to psych@pittstate.edu for the University to complete this check.

Fees apply to domestic students who have more than one last name (maiden, married, or nicknames) as well as international students.

Step 5: Professional Recommendations

Collect three references to complete the Recommendation Form and email to psych@pittstate.edu.

At least one reference should be from a teacher or academic advisor who can speak on behalf of your academic performance.

References from employers, teachers, or academic advisors are preferred. References from friends, relatives, neighbors, ministers, personal physicians, and personal counselors are not acceptable. 

Step 6: Personal Statement

Write a one-page personal statement of career goals and email to psych@pittstate.edu.

This statement should include describing your background, professional/educational goals, and specific program area of interest at Pitt State.

Optional: Graduate Assistanship

Graduate assistantships are available for:

  • M.S. General Psychology
  • M.S. Psychology (Behavior Analysis)
  • M.S. Clinical Psychology
  • M.S. School Counseling (Pre-K to 12)
  • Ed.S. School Psychology

Complete the Graduate Assistantship Application and email it to psych@pittstate.edu.

Optional: Advanced Graduate Placement

A student with at least a 3.7 cumulative grade point average and a psychology major at Pittsburg State University or Missouri Southern State University can apply for Advanced Graduate Standing. 

The Advanced Graduate Placement Form can be submitted to psych@pittstate.edu during the semester in which the student has completed a total of 90 credit hours.
