Turnitin

What is Turnitin?

Pittsburg State University has a license for Turnitin's Feedback Studio product. It can be used as a teaching tool to help students learn to properly cite work as well as a deterrent for plagiarism. This service offers the following:

  • Similarity Report - used to identify blocks of text found in papers which might indicate plagiarism
  • Feedback Studio - In addition to the similarity report there is also a full set of tools to add comments to student papers as well as use rubrics

Turnitin and Canvas

Turnitin is integrated with the Canvas assignment tool. Faculty can add an "external tool" submission type and student papers will automatically be submitted to Turnitin. Below are some Canvas tutorials for adding a Turnitin assignment:


Turnitin Direct Login for Pitt State Faculty

You may also choose to upload your student's work directly to the Turnitin website. This is a good option when you want to spot check student papers. You will need to create an account on the Turnitin website.

To create an account on the Turnitin Website:

  1. Contact your Instructional Support Consultant or the CTLT for Pitt State's Account ID and Join Key information
  2. To register and create a user profile, go to www.turnitin.com
  3. Click on the "Create Account" link on the homepage
  4. Click on the "Instructor" link
  5. Input the information for Pitt State's account and enter your user information
  6. Please make sure to use your Pitt State email address in your user profile
