Grace Steiner

Grace Steiner, a Kansas native, is a passionate educator and performer dedicated to sharing music with the community around her. Grace received her BM in Vocal Performance from Kansas State University and her MM in Voice from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where she was awarded a Preparing Future Faculty Fellowship during her studies. She is in the final year of her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Kansas, where she served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in Voice. Throughout her time in Kansas City, Grace taught Applied Voice as an Adjunct Professor of Music at Rockhurst University and maintained a private studio of students of all ages.

An avid performer, Grace has sung on stages in the U.S. and abroad. Performances include appearances with KU Opera, UMKC Opera, AIMS in Graz, Landlocked Opera, Sun Valley Music Festival Chamber Program, and the Ad Astra Music Festival. Equally comfortable in operatic and musical theatre genres, some of Grace’s performance highlights include the lead role of Diana in the world-premiere workshop of Susan Kander’s Carry My Own Suitcase, which was a winner of the Opera America Discovery Grant, as well as her portrayal of Mrs. Lovett in KU’s 2024 production of Sweeney Todd. Other roles include Nerone (L’incoronazione di Poppea), Sorceress (Dido and Aeneas), Ruth (Pirates of Penzance), and Dritte Dame (Die Zauberflöte).

Grace is dedicated to research to consistently improve teaching methods in the voice studio. Her particular interests include applications of musical theatre repertoire for development in the classical voice studio, as well as the examination of underutilized solo voice repertoire for the undergraduate vocal student.
