Mental Health Counselor

Position Description

The Mental Health Counselor is a 10 month position (August- May) with possible opportunity for summer hours based on student/client need. This position primarily provides brief, short-term psychological services to assist a diverse student body toward attaining their educational, interpersonal, and academic goals. Services include individual assessment and counseling/therapy; consultation with medical/health center staff, crisis/intervention services; psychoeducational outreach programming to student groups, staff, faculty, administrators, and parents/families; and group counseling as needed.

Minimum Requirements

Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, or related field. Proficiency in the application of communication techniques and relationship building skills that develop the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner. Proficiency in collaborating and interacting with individuals and groups while valuing the unique contribution of individuals from varied cultures, race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity. Proficiency with office support tools and electronic medical records software (e.g., word processing, email, presentation software and spreadsheets, electronic health records); preferably Microsoft Office and Point and Click Solutions EMR. Current license or eligibility for licensure as a Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Master’s Level Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Psychotherapist, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, or Licensed Professional Counselor by the State of Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board.
