Body Composition Measurements

Tanita Scale:

Provides the following: accurate body weight or body mass; total body water; estimated percent body fat, fat free mass, muscle mass, bone mass, basal metabolic rate (BMR), BMI, and a visceral fat rating.

BodPod:

Examines the following: accurate body weight or body mass; body density; total lung capacity; estimated percent body fat; and estimated basal metabolic rate.
This test is based on air displacement, similar to under water weighing.

DEXA*:

Examines the following: accurate measurement of bone density and bone mass; percent body fat; and muscle mass.
*Must submit a referral form/script from a physician.
*Results will be forwarded to your primary care physician.

Cardiovascular, Strength, and Power Measurements

Global Fitness Evaluation:

Examines the following: Total push-ups (upper body strength); total sit-ups (core strength); 3-minute step test (cardiovascular health); hand grip strength (extremity strength); and sit-and-reach test (flexibility)

Maximal Oxygen Consumption (VO2 max):

Examines the following: Cardiovascular fitness: pulmonary efficiency. Information collected can be utilized to create personalized exercise prescriptions. Completed on a treadmill or bicycle ergometer.

Ventilatory Threshold:

Examines the following: The point during exercise where skeletal muscle metabolism relies mostly on glucose for energy production, thus producing lactic acid; measurement closely reflects the lactate threshold. Information collected can be utilized to create personalized exercise prescriptions.

Anaerobic Power/Capacity:

Examines the following: Ability of the anaerobic energy systems to produce energy during short-term maximal effort exercise. Completed on a treadmill or bicycle ergometer. Information collected can be utilized to create personalized exercise prescription.

Resting ECG:

Examines the following: Measures the electrical activity of the heart.
Results will be forwarded to your primary care physician or cardiologist.

Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR)*:

Examines the following: Directly measures the amount of energy (kcal) needed to sustain life at rest.
*Must be completed following a 12h fasted.
*Most accurate way to determine the amount of kilocalories a person needs to consume to remain weight stable or to  maintain life at rest.

Pulmonary Function/Spirometry*:

Examines the following: A noninvasive test that demonstrates how the lungs are functioning by determining lung volume, lung capacity, inspiratory and expiratory flow capacity, and total lung volume.
*Results will be forwarded to your primary care physician.
