Internal Auditing is recognized as the go-to team for answers on risk and control issue. Internal Auditors review and make recommendations on every aspect of the organization to improve its effectiveness, assess and communicate organizational risks, evaluate and recommend cost savings and process improvement opportunities, and investigate fraud.

Internal auditors come from a variety of backgrounds including accounting, information systems, finance, management, marketing, engineering, technology, and health sciences.
Students are actively recruited from college and university campuses worldwide, and those from schools with Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) approved internal auditing curricula are in high-demand.
According to the 2016 Salary Guide by Robert Half International, Internal Auditor is among the "Hot Positions" for 2016.
Additionally, Certified Internal Auditor is listed as an "In-Demand Credential."
An Internal Auditor working for a midsize company with up to one year of experience can expect a salary ranging from $52,250 up to $65,500 in 2016. The salary range for those with one to three years experience is expected to be $60,250 to $81,750.
Compensation for the Chief Audit Executive is projected at $119,000 to $279,500 for the year.
The Internal Auditing Program at Pittsburg State is officially endorsed by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) as an Internal Auditing Education Partnership (IAEP) Program, and is one of only 47 IAEP Programs worldwide.
Completion of the program results in a certificate notation on a student's PSU transcript, as well as receipt of an official certificate from the Institute of Internal Auditors.
To apply for this certificate program, students must have at least 30 hours complete and at least a 3.0 GPA. Completion requires the following three elements:
1. Completion of the following 12 hours of curriculum with at least a 3.0:
ACCTG 201, Financial Accounting (3 cr. hrs)
ACCTG 422, Internal Auditing (3 cr. hrs)
At least two of the following courses:
ACCTG 522, Information Systems Auditing and Control (3 cr. hrs)
ACCTG 614, Internship in Accounting* (3 cr. hrs)
*Must be an Internal Auditing, IT Auditing, or External Auditing internship
ACCTG 625, Fraud Examination (3 cr. hrs)
2. Membership in the Institute of Internal Auditors Student Chapter (IIASC).
3. Participation in at least four professional activities per year. Professional activities include IIA Student Chapter meetings, IIA Kansas City Chapter meetings, and other professional activities approved by the IAEP coordinator.
All students who successfully complete the 21-hour internal auditing curriculum earn the Minor in Internal Auditing.
