Accesiblility Process and Rules

Before publishing:

  • Use semantic headings (H1, H2, H3 in order).
  • Provide meaningful link text (avoid "click here").
  • Add alt text for every non-decorative image.
  • Ensure sufficient color contrast (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text).
  • Caption/transcript multimedia; provide audio descriptions when possible.
  • Test forms for labels, errors, and keyboard navigation.
  • Use accessible tables (headers & captions) and make complex tables available via accessible summaries.

During publishing (CMS checks):

  • Run automated accessibility scan plugin and fix warnings.
  • Preview with keyboard-only navigation.
  • Use the “Accessibility checklist” checklist before final publish.

Prohibited practices:

  • Don’t use color as the only means of conveying information.
  • Don’t rely on images of text without an accessible alternative.
