Family and Consumer Sciences at Pittsburg State University is one of two Family and Consumer Sciences programs in Kansas and is known for getting students involved in professional development opportunities that will lead to employment across the nation. Students who select the
Youth and Adolescence minor are typically looking for something to complement a major in secondary education, social work, sociology, or psychology.

Family and Consumer Sciences is an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary study of the relationship between humans and their natural, social, and built environments. Students minoring in the area of Youth and Adolescence at PSU experience a variety of courses selected from both within and outside the Family and Consumer Sciences program. They are guided by dedicated faculty who see every student's potential to find his or her own level of success. The minor is open to all students on campus.

About Family and Consumer Sciences Department


The Department of Family & Consumer Sciences offers baccalaureate degrees and a cooperative master’s degree program. B.S. programs are offered in Community and Family Services and two tracks in Child Development. A B.S.E. program is offered in Family & Consumer Sciences Education. The department is also a partner in the Early Childhood Unified program housed in the College of Education. The department offers minors in Child Development, Human Ecology, and Youth and Adolescent Development. The department also contributes to minors in Women’s Studies and Public Health.
