Family and Consumer Sciences at Pittsburg State University is one of two Family and Consumer Sciences programs in Kansas and is known for getting students involved in professional development opportunities that will lead to employment across the nation. Students who select the Human Ecology minor typically are looking for a broad base of Family and Consumer Sciences content.

Human ecology is an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary study of the relationship between humans and their natural, social, and built environments. Students minoring in the area of Human Ecology at Pittsburg State University experience a variety of hands-on learning opportunities both in the classroom and in the community. They are guided by dedicated faculty who see every student’s potential to find his or her own level of success. This minor is open to all students on campus.

About Family and Consumer Sciences Department


Family and Consumer Sciences offers baccalaureate degrees and a cooperative master’s degree program. Bachelor of Science degrees are offered in Nutrition and Wellness, Community and Family Services, Family and Consumer Sciences Education, and two tracks in Child Development. The program has an Early Childhood Unified: Birth - Kindergarten degree and offers minors in Child Development, Family and Consumer Sciences, Human Ecology, Nutrition and Wellness, and Youth and Adolescent Development. Family and Consumer Sciences also contributes to minors in Women’s Studies and Public Health.
