Family and Consumer Sciences at Pittsburg State University is one of two Family and Consumer Sciences programs in Kansas and is known for getting students involved in professional development opportunities that will lead to employment across the nation. Students who select the Human Ecology minor typically are looking for a broad base of Family and Consumer Sciences content.

Human ecology is an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary study of the relationship between humans and their natural, social, and built environments. Students minoring in the area of Human Ecology at Pittsburg State University experience a variety of hands-on learning opportunities both in the classroom and in the community. They are guided by dedicated faculty who see every student’s potential to find his or her own level of success. This minor is open to all students on campus.

About Family and Consumer Sciences Department


The Department of Family & Consumer Sciences offers baccalaureate degrees and a cooperative master’s degree program. B.S. programs are offered in Community and Family Services and two tracks in Child Development. A B.S.E. program is offered in Family & Consumer Sciences Education. The department is also a partner in the Early Childhood Unified program housed in the College of Education. The department offers minors in Child Development, Human Ecology, and Youth and Adolescent Development. The department also contributes to minors in Women’s Studies and Public Health.
