Overview


Earn your degree in Communications with an emphasis in Media Production at Pittsburg State University.

Students learn about every broadcasting role from director to camera operator. Develop skills in live broadcast and streamcast productions of university events such as:

Our students annually produce more than 100 live productions, ranging from international competitions to locally-produced newscasts. See past productions on pittstate.tv!

Student-led broadcasts are viewed by more than 100,000 individuals every year. In fact, Pittsburg State students annually produce the live broadcast of the MIAA Basketball Tournament in Kansas City which is aired in seven states.

Graduates find jobs in the rapidly developing field of digital communication, or the more traditional broadcast areas such as television, radio, and production.

PSU alumni have enjoyed successful careers with companies and organizations such as NBC, the NFL Network, ESPN, the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network, the Kansas City Royals, and the Phoenix Suns.

The median annual wage for media and communication professionals is $54,780.

  • Internship and Research Opportunities for Media Production

Media production students will have opportunities for scholarships and internships. Pittsburg State’s media production program has contacts with regional production companies and organizations such as Spectrum Sports in Kansas City, the Kansas Speedway, Sporting KC, and many more.

The Department of Communication offers Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees within a collaborative and collegial environment.
