The 54th Annual Math Relays

will be held Tuesday, April 9, 2024

Schedule of Events

The annual Pitt State Math Relays are designed to give area high school students an opportunity to participate in mathematics competition featuring knowledge, ability, and speed. We feel that it is important to give recognition to those students who are talented in one or more of the many different areas of mathematics.

The Math Relays will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a general meeting in the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts. The medals will be given to the math instructors in our office at approximately 3:30 p.m. Headquarters for the relays will be in rooms 210 and 224 Yates Hall.

Rules

  1. The Math Relays will consist of a number of events, both individual and team. The individual events will be designated as 10th grade, 11th grade, or 12th grade. A 10th grade student may enter 10th, 11th, or 12th grade events. An 11th grade student may enter 11th or 12th grade events. However, a 12th grade student is eligible only for those events designated as 12th grade events. Relay teams may be from any level and will consist of exactly four students. The Marathon is open to 12th graders only. Ninth grade students may participate in the Math Relays only if they are part of the high school, and 7th and 8th grade students may not participate.
  2. Each school will be allowed one team for each relay event. Each school will be allowed no more than three students in an individual event. Each school will be allowed no more than two students in the Marathon. A student may enter no more than three individual events and no more than two team events. However, the maximum entry for each student shall be no more than a combined total of four events.
  3. Entries postmarked after March 10, 2023, may not be accepted; nor will additions to entries be accepted after this date.
  4. Each school must be accompanied by a faculty advisor or mathematics coach. It will be the responsibility of the participant to be at the designated place for the event.
  5. Pitt State reserves the right to cancel any event and to limit participation if necessary.
