Assistant Professor - Criminal Justice

Position Description

Contingent upon funding, the Department of History, Philosophy, and Social Sciences at Pittsburg State University is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor, Criminal Justice (Justice Studies; tenure earning). August 12, 2019 start date.

Responsibilities

A strong commitment to undergraduate education is essential; responsibilities will include teaching Criminal Justice courses at the undergraduate level. The ability or willingness to teach courses online is highly desirable. The normal teaching load is four classes (12 hours) a semester. Research interests are open, but expertise in gender/race/ethnicity will receive special consideration.

Minimum Requirements

Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Justice Studies, or Criminology in hand. ABD considered if within one year of completion.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching online courses.

The multi-disciplinary Department of History, Philosophy, and Social Sciences at Pittsburg State University houses the following majors: Geography, History, History Education, Justice Studies (Criminal Justice), Political Science & International Studies, Social Work, and Sociology along with minors in Multicultural Studies and Philosophy. The department offers opportunities to cross disciplinary lines for collaborations in teaching and research. Successful candidates will work with Criminologists in Sociology, a well-equipped GIS lab in Geography, a strong pre-law program in Political Science & International Studies, and a region-leading Social Work program.
