KC radio affiliate added to Gorilla Sports Network

My Town Media and Pittsburg State today announced the addition of ESPN Kansas City (1510 AM and 99.3 FM) to the Gorilla Sports Network.

“Kansas City has been a priority of ours ever since we became the radio home of Pittsburg State athletics,” said Bill Wachter, general manager of My Town Media. “Adding ESPN Kansas City provides fans with the perfect listening destination in the metro area. It’s a great addition to the Gorilla Sports Network.”

ESPN Kansas City is actually two radio stations, 1510 AM (daytime only) and 99.3 FM. The sports-oriented format will provide the perfect lead-in for Gorilla football. Every game, home and away, will be broadcast on the radio stations.

“Kansas City is home to thousands of Pittsburg State alumni,” said Jim Johnson, director of intercollegiate athletics. “Adding ESPN Kansas City to the radio network gives us a much stronger media presence in the metro area. It’s a great move for our alumni and will help our recruitment efforts. It’s exactly what we were hoping for when we created the Gorilla Sports Network.”

ESPN Radio 100.7 (KSHQ) in Pittsburg is the flagship station for the Gorilla Sports Network. Current Gorilla football affiliates in Kansas are KLKC 95.3 FM in Parsons, and KBIK 102.9 FM in Independence. Select games will also be broadcast on KSEK 1340 AM and its translator, 107.9 FM. In Missouri, you can listen on KHST 101.7 FM in Lamar/Joplin.

Efforts are currently underway to add new affiliates in Springfield and other areas throughout Kansas.

“We’re working hard to bring a Springfield affiliate on board this fall,” Wachter said. “Of course, Gorilla fans throughout the world are able to streamcast every game and every sportscast by downloading the Gorilla Experience app onto their phone or tablet. You can download it for free in the Apple and Google app stores.”

Eddie Lomshek will begin his 14th year behind the mic as the official “Voice of the Gorillas.” Lomshek will be joined once again by the area’s premiere color analyst, B.J. Harris.

“You won’t find a broadcast team more skilled than this,” Wachter said. “Fans are in for a treat this fall.”

Pittsburg State University will begin its football season on Aug. 31 when they take on the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. with kickoff at 7 p.m.
