More than 115 companies, ranging from major national brands to expanding local and regional employers, and more than 700 students filled the Overman Student Center’s Crimson and Gold Ballroom on October 22 for the fall Career Expo.
Mindy Cloninger, director of Career Services, said the 700 students who attended the expo was a record.
“It is tremendous to have so many students participate in the expo,” Cloninger said. “It confirms how important it is to have this event, which is open to all majors and all classifications of students, in the heart of the campus.”
Many of the employers at the expo said they were actively recruiting for open positions. Others were talking to students about internship opportunities in the months ahead.
Cloninger said Career Services encourages even freshmen and sophomores to attend the expo, where they can not only learn about the wide range of opportunities companies may offer Pitt State graduates, but also begin to build relationships.
“Many of the recruiters return to Pittsburg State year after year,” Cloninger said, “so a student can develop a relationship that may turn into an internship or eventually a permanent job.”
