Speaker brings motivational message

Corey D. Taylor, an Emmy Award winning producer, speaker, author and Pittsburg State University alumnus, will speak at PSU at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19, as part of the university’s observance of Black History Month. Taylor will share his motivational message with students in 102 Yates Hall.

Taylor, who grew up in North County near St. Louis, said he struggled socially and academically in school but learned the source of his challenges when he was at Pittsburg State. At PSU, Taylor learned he had been wrestling with moderate Dyslexia and ADHD and he developed strategies to deal with those issues.

After earning both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from PSU, Taylor went on to develop a career as a leadership trainer and coach. Over the years, he has spoken to thousands of people in presentations for organizations, schools, churches, corporations and higher-education institutions.

Taylor was the associate producer of “The Wayman Tisdale Story,” a film about the late NBA player and jazz musician, for which he won an Emmy Award (NATAS) and three Telly Awards.

He has directed Federal grant-based programs and served as a school board member. He is the former co-founder and president of Conquest Inc., and a former member of the National Speakers Association.

Taylor’s visit to PSU is sponsored by the Office of Student Diversity, 620-235-4077.
