PSU Wind Ensemble to perform at Lincoln Center

When the members of the Pittsburg State University Wind Ensemble hang up their Christmas stockings, they’re likely to be hoping for a little extra cash to help finance a trip to perform in New York in April.

In October, the ensemble was invited to perform in Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall on April 6, 2015. Craig Fuchs, director of the ensemble, said once the decision to accept the invitation was made, the process of raising approximately $90,000 needed to finance the trip began.

“Alice Tulley Hall is one of the three main concert halls in New York,” Fuchs said. “Receiving an invitation to perform there is a great honor and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students.”

So far, Fuchs said, the ensemble has received significant support from the Student Government Association and the university. Additionally, each of the 53 musicians in the ensemble will pay $300 for the trip.

Now, Fuchs said, the Wind Ensemble is soliciting help from former members of the group and other alumni. The ensemble will also use upcoming concerts, including their holiday concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7, to encourage donations.

“This is an experience that these young musicians will never forget,” Fuchs said. “It is also an opportunity to put some of Pittsburg State’s finest students on the national stage.”
