PSU gets high ranking for online programs

Affordable Colleges Online (ACO), an Internet-based company designed to help students find affordable and accredited online educational programs, has named Pittsburg State University among its top 20 universities in its list of “Best Online Master’s Programs” for 2014-15.

To determine its rankings, ACO, considered the number of master’s degree programs universities offered, graduate tuition and fees, the availability of academic and career counseling services, job placement for graduates and a formula that uses cost and quality to measure the overall value of an online master’s degree.

Pawan Kahol, dean of graduate and continuing studies, said that although the university has worked hard to expand its online offerings, it has worked even harder to ensure that its online classes are high quality.

“What must not be lost in the expansion of online offerings is quality,” Kahol said. “The convenience that online classes offer is not worth much if the result is a lower quality educational experience compared to traditional classroom experiences. Pittsburg State continues to work very hard to bring together the very best of both worlds and I think this ranking reflects that.”

ACO was launched in 2012 with the goals of helping students identify programs that are both affordable and accredited. For more information, visit www.affordablecollegesonline.org.
