Microsoft Office to be free for PSU students, employees

Pittsburg State University students, faculty and staff will receive a special gift this holiday season. Instead of finding it in their stockings, however, they need only look on their computers and mobile devices.

Through a partnership established between Pitt State and Microsoft, university students, faculty and staff will receive for free versions of Microsoft Office and Office 365 – the software suites that include popular programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for students, faculty and staff to have access to Microsoft Office at absolutely no cost to them,” said Angela Neria, PSU chief information officer. “We are most appreciative to Microsoft for this offer and partnership.”

The offer includes a free Office 365 account with one terabyte of storage in the proverbial “digital cloud.” Microsoft will also allow all students, faculty and staff to download Office on five computers, five tablets and five mobile devices.

“The great advantage with this is that the licenses can be used on personal devices as long as you are an active PSU student or employee,” Neria said. “So whether they use a laptop, desktop computer, tablet, smart phone or all of the above, PSU students, faculty and staff will have access to Microsoft Office on all of their technologies of choice.”
