Pitt Pals experience fall traditions

Students from around the world learned about Halloween and other American fall traditions at the annual Pitt Pal Fiesta on Oct. 22.

Pitt Pals is a program that matches American students with international students who serve as buddies and guides in their exploration of American culture and adjustment to life in the U.S.

Under a blue autumn sky and amidst falling leaves in Gorilla Village, the international students and their American “pals” cooked hot dogs over an open fire, bobbed for apples and carved pumpkins.

Most of the international students said they had heard about Halloween in the U.S., but didn’t realize it was such a big holiday. They also seemed surprised at how tough carving a pumpkin can really be and how messy the task is.
