Family Day tickets selling fast

While the #8 ranked Pittsburg State Gorilla football team is focused on this Saturday’s matchup in Topeka with the Washburn Ichabods, the university is preparing for the Gorillas’ return to Carnie Smith Stadium on September 27.

After reviewing the daily ticket report today, Jim Johnson, the director of intercollegiate athletics, believes the university will soon be looking at another sell-out.

“I wouldn’t wait much longer if you want to see the game in person. We have fewer than 200 seats left, Johnson said.”

Interest in watching the Gorillas is nothing new for Pittsburg State, which has hosted sell-out crowds in eight of its last 11 home games. What is new, however, is how quickly the tickets for the Sept. 27 game are selling.

“We normally don’t talk about ticket sales this far in advance of a home game but we want to make certain our fans, especially those who travel a great distance, are aware of the demand so that they can get their tickets early,” said Johnson.

Student tickets are also moving quickly with fewer than 600 seats remaining.

“Our students are absolutely incredible,” said Johnson. “They are helping make Carnie Smith Stadium one of the toughest venues in the nation to play.”

University officials will offer standing room only (SRO) seating near the south end zone once all general admission and student tickets are gone, but caution that even with the additional areas, admission will be limited.

“We’re closing in on another sell-out,” said Johnson. “We want our fans to enjoy the game in a fun and safe atmosphere so we’ll be watching our capacity closely.”

The September 27 game is also “Family Day” at Pittsburg State University and will feature activities throughout the day.

“Our alumni and students love this game because it gives them an opportunity to create and share so many great memories,” said Jon Bartlow, director of alumni and constituent relations. “We’re especially excited to host our first ever Family Day Fiesta in conjunction with the Office of Student Diversity and the Campus Activity Center. It should be a great day for our fans and their families.”

The Gorillas’ matchup with Fort Hays on Sept. 27 will kickoff at 2 p.m. and be televised by the MIAA Television Network. The network can be seen throughout the state of Kansas on Cox Cable and Eagle Communication, in Kansas City on KSMO-TV and in St. Joseph, Mo., on the News-Press NOW channel.

Fans can also listen to the radio broadcast of the game on Pittsburg State University’s official radio home for the Gorillas, 860 AM, KKOW.
