Students trade shirts from other universities for Gorilla pride

On Monday, Twitter users began sharing the news about “Trade Your T Tuesday,” so Pittsburg State University students began streaming to the Oval on Tuesday morning to trade in their used t-shirts sporting other universities’ logos for new shirts proclaiming their Gorilla pride.

The promotion, Pittsburg State University’s Office of Marketing and Communications, is designed to enhance the university’s brand and build excitement among students for wearing Pitt State gear.

“Pitt State has a strong brand that is recognized across the U.S.,” said Jenny Hellwig, director of publications and special projects, who helped distribute the shirts. “When students and alumni wear PSU’s split-face logo, that sends a message to the public about the pride they have in their university. We want to encourage that.”

In less than two hours, students snatched up about 250 of the shirts. They left behind a large pile of shirts touting large D-I powerhouses, small private colleges and familiar MIAA foes. Those shirts will be donated to charity, Hellwig said.
