Fraternities, sororities plan leadership weekend

Nearly 500 Pittsburg State University fraternity and sorority members will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., this weekend for the annual Fraternal Leadership Summit at the University of Arkansas.

The summit, which aims at promoting leadership and cohesiveness among the university’s fraternity and sorority members, takes place on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 16-17.

The keynote address will be given by T.J. Sullivan, whose presentation “Confronting the Idiot In Your Chapter” challenges all fraternities and sororities to “step up to the plate and find the courage to confront negative actions and attitudes from their fellow members.”

Another keynote address will be given by David Coleman, who will present his “Making Greek Great” address, which covers the meaning of Greek sisterhood and brotherhood.

In other sessions, students will hear from university and community officials on a number of topics, including fundraising, public relations, finance and fundraising. The event will also feature team-building and chapter exercises.

This is the fifth year of the leadership summit.

There are three sororities and six fraternities at PSU. The sororities are: Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Sigma Alpha and Sigma Sigma Sigma. The fraternities are: Lambda Chi Alpha, Pi Kappa Alpha, Phi Sigma Kappa, Sigma Chi, Sigma Phi Epsilon and Sigma Tau Gamma.

Fraternal Leadership Summit sponsors are the Student Government Association, the Interfraternity Council, the Overman Student Center, the Campus Activities Center, the Panhellenic Council and Campus Life and Auxiliary Services.
