PSU ensembles present free spring concert

The PSU Symphonic Band the PSU Wind Ensemble will present a free spring concert at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, in Pittsburg’s Memorial Auditorium, 503 Pine.

The Symphonic Band is directed by James Clanton, with guest conductors Craig Fuchs, a member of the PSU Music Department faculty, and Connor Callahan, an undergraduate music education major. Fuchs directs the Wind Ensemble, as well.

The Symphonic Band program includes “Joy in All Things,” by Brian Balmages; “Before the Sun,” by Julie Giroux and featuring violin soloist Alex Urbina, a graduate student in violin performance; “In the Forest of the King,” by Pierre LaPlante; “Portraits,” by Jim Colonna; and “Appalachian Overture,” by James Barnes.

In their portion of the concert, the PSU Wind will perform “March,” from “Symphonic Metamorphosis,” by Paul Hindemith; “Tuba Concerto,” by local composer Barbara York and featuring AJ Beu, a graduate student in tuba performance; “Colonial Song,” by Percy Grainger; “Angels in the Architecture,” by Frank Ticheli and featuring Madison Youngberg-King, an undergraduate music performance major; and “The Hounds of Spring,” by Alfred Reed.
