New exhibit opens in Harry Krug Gallery

A new exhibit in Pittsburg State University’s Harry Krug Gallery is timed to coincide with the observance of Women’s History Month.

“Cut and Tie,” a collection of works by artist Katherine Strause, will be on display through May 2.

Struase uses found photographs as source material for her large-scale paintings. Discarded family albums, archived civil rights photography and beauty pageant publicity photos all find their way into Strause’s work as the artist explores the perspective of “woman.”

Struase is an associate professor of painting and the chair of the Department of Art at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Ark. She earned a BFA from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and an MFA from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.

The Harry Krug Gallery, in Porter Hall, is open from 8 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday and from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Fridays.
