Internationally acclaimed clarinetist to perform at PSU

Internationally acclaimed clarinetist Alcides Rodriguez will perform at Pittsburg State University on Friday, March 28, as part of PSU’s 2013-14 Solo and Chamber Music Series. The performance is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Sharon Kay Dean Recital Hall in McCray Hall.

Alcides Rodriguez publicity shotA native of Venezuela, Rodriguez is currently the bass clarinetist for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and is a member of the Atlanta Chamber Players. He is a versatile musician who is heard in chamber, orchestral and concerto performances on clarinet and bass clarinet. Rodriguez also plays maracas and cuatro and has been featured as a maracas soloist.

Rodriguez’s album, “The Venezuelan Clarinet” (2010) is a tribute to the music of his native country, where he obtained his musical training through its system of youth orchestras.

Tickets are $12 for the general public and $8 for persons over 65 or under 18 and are available in advance through the University Ticket Office in the Weede PE Building, 620-235-4796, www.pittstate.edu/tickets. They are also available at the door prior to the performance. Full-time PSU students are entitled to a free ticket.

The Solo and Chamber Music Series is supported by major funding from the PSU Student Government Association.
