Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble to perform Feb. 20

The Pittsburg State University Symphonic Band and the PSU Wind Ensemble will present a free concert at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, in Memorial Auditorium. The Symphonic Band will be under the direction of James Clanton, assisted by Craig Fuchs. The Wind Ensemble is directed by Fuchs.

The Band program will include “Fanfare and Flourishes,” by James Curnow; “When the Spring Rains Begin to Fall,” by Randall Standridge; “Choreography,” by Robert Sheldon; “Tudor Sketches,” by William Owens; and “The Big Cage,” by Karl King. The concert will also feature a performance by the PSU Percussion Ensemble, led by Clanton. This group has been selected to play at the annual Kansas Music Educators Conference in Wichita on March 1st.

The Wind Ensemble program is entitled “The Essence of Music: Power and Beauty” and features music by American composers. They will perform “Commando March,” by Samuel Barber; “Song for Lyndsay,” by Andrew Boysen; “Yosemite Autumn,” by Mark Camphouse; “La Fiesta Mexicana,” by H. Owen Reed; and “The White Rose,” by John Philip Sousa.
