Basketball games to be played Tuesday

Pittsburg State University’s basketball games with the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats will be played this evening as scheduled. The decision comes after discussions between both institutions and the conference office. Mid America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) policy states that competition during inclement weather is at the discretion of the travelling team.

“These games were originally scheduled for December 21 but due to inclement weather at that time moved to today,” said Jim Johnson, PSU director of intercollegiate athletics. “Southwest Baptist University officials determined that travel was possible today and we collectively made the decision to move ahead with the games as scheduled.”

The active winter weather this year also played a factor in the decision to play these games.

“Our winter weather has been very active this year,” said Johnson. “There are a limited number of open dates available over the next four weeks and the possibility of future weather issues placed us in a difficult position.”

Because of the conditions, tonight’s games will have minimal staffing. Tickets will not be required for admission.

“We want everyone to be safe this evening,” said Johnson. “We hope our students who live on campus or nearby will be able to attend but also encourage our fans to listen to the radio broadcast on 860 AM KKOW or online at kkowam.com.”

The Pittsburg State Gorilla Women will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. and the men will follow at 7:30 p.m.
