Spring Festival celebrates Chinese Culture

Pittsburg State University's Chinese Culture Club will host the Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year, on Friday, Jan. 31.

The event will begin with a cultural presentation at 5 p.m. in the Crimson and Gold Ballroom of the Overman Student Center. The program will include traditional Chinese dancing using Chinese fans, Chinese songs, traditional instrument playing called hulusi, taiji performance, as well as a brief introduction to the Spring Festival custom.

Participants will also have the opportunity to try Chinese calligraphy and other activities with prizes.

Following the cultural program, a traditional Chinese meal will be served in the United Methodist Campus Ministry (UMCM), located one block north of the Student Center, 201 E. Williams St. The menu will include Chinese recipes using shrimp, chicken, tofu, and beef, dumplings, Chinese soup, and more.

This event is open to the public. Seating is limited and only 150 tickets are available.

Tickets for this event are $8 each and can be purchased in advance in the Office of International Programs and Service, 118 Whitesitt Hall.
