Wind Ensemble concert set for Oct. 8

The Pittsburg State University Wind Ensemble’s first concert of the 2013-14 season will compare the compositional devices used by composers in the late 20th century to those of the early 21st century.

The ensemble will present a program entitled “Contrasts” at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, in Pittsburg’s Memorial Auditorium. The concert is free.

Ensemble Director Craig Fuchs said the repertoire for the concert includes “Vienna Philharmonic Fanfare,” by Richard Strauss; “Firefly,” by Ryan George; “They Hung Their Harps on the Willows,” by Francis McBeth; “Variants on a Mediaeval Tune,” by Norman Dello Joio; Symphony No. 9, by David Maslanka; “El Camino Real,” by Alfred Reed; and the “Klaxon,” by Henry Fillmore.
