U.S. News: PSU among Midwest best and lowest debt

U.S. News and World Report released its 2013 edition of U.S. News' "Best Colleges" on Tuesday, and Pittsburg State University once again earned the highest ranking among Kansas’ public regional universities.

The publication includes Pittsburg State on its list of top tier "Best Regional Universities" in the Midwest, which includes the states of Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.

U.S. News also singled out Pittsburg State as one of five regional universities in the Midwest where students graduate with the lowest debt.

To develop its rankings, U.S. News and World Report examines statistical data in 16 categories including alumni giving, how selective the university's admissions policies are, class sizes, retention rates, student-faculty ratio and peer assessments.

“It is always nice to be recognized in a national publication,” said Bill Ivy, associate vice president for enrollment management and student success. “Many people all across campus play a part in ensuring our students receive an outstanding education and a superior student experience.”

Although kudos from national publications are nice, Ivy noted, there are even more important indicators of PSU’s success.

“The things that give us the most satisfaction,” Ivy said, “are the successes of our students, the achievements of our alumni and the recognition PSU gets from business and industry leaders who say PSU students are well prepared for life and work after graduation.”
