Roberts named interim dean of library services

As Pittsburg State University’s curator of special collections and university archivist, Randy Roberts has spent the past 15 years of his professional life inside Axe Library preserving and highlighting the history of PSU and the local community.

In a few weeks, he’ll have another significant reason for being at the library.

Randy Roberts mug shotRoberts has been named interim dean of library services, effective June 8. He succeeds David Bunnell, who this spring announced his resignation from the position.

“Randy is highly-regarded at Pittsburg State and in the community, and we’re very appreciative that he’s willing to take on this assignment,” said Lynette Olson, provost and vice-president of academic affairs. “I know he will provide great leadership to the library.”

Roberts will continue in his roles as university curator and archivist.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to help lead library services at Pittsburg State,” Roberts said. “It’s been a joy to serve here for 15 years and I look forward to what’s ahead.”

Olson said Bunnell, who will remain on the library’s staff, had a positive effect on the library during his tenure as dean.

“Dr. Bunnell did a lot for the library, including helping to plan for the location of the Student Success Center within Axe Library,” Olson said. “He also led a face lift for the interior of the library, giving the main floor an updated, more open and welcoming look, and he was instrumental in the reopening of the Axe Grind coffee shop. We appreciate his service.”
