Career Services hosts Career Makeover

The professionals in Pittsburg State University’s Office of Career Services know that studying hard and getting good grades is just one step on the way to a great career. That’s why the office is sponsoring Career Makeover from 4-5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, in the Crimson and Gold Ballroom of the Overman Student Center.

Career Makeover is designed to help students make a good first impression when it is time for the big job interview.

“In a competitive market in which there may be multiple applicants for a job, first impressions can be the difference between landing a job or getting passed over,” said Mindy Cloninger, director of the PSU’s Office of Career Services.

Students at Career Makeover will get tips and instruction on everything from improving their resumes to dressing properly for a job interview. Guys can get hands-on practice tying neckties and live models will demonstrate both the “do’s” and “don’ts” of attire for interviews.

A panel of employers will answer questions and discuss interviewing and hiring practices. At one station, students may get free photos taken for professional networking sites.

“The event is designed to be both fun and informative,” Cloninger said. “We know these students are eager and well prepared for the work place. Our goal is to help them get that opportunity.”
