Poet, playwright to read from his works

The Pittsburg State University Distinguished Visiting Writers Series will host poet, playwright and fiction author Paul Dickey for a reading of his works at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, in the Governors Room of the Overman Student Center. The reading is free and open to the public.

Dickey holds a master of arts degree from Indiana University, Bloomington, in the history and philosophy of science and a bachelor of arts degree from Wichita State University. In the 1970s, he studied in the creative writing program at Wichita State.

Dickey’s poetry has appeared in a numerous university publications and in journals such as Rattle, Mid-American Review, Our Stories, Sentence: A Journal of Prose Poetics, Southern Poetry Review, Cider Press Review, Free Lunch and Crab Orchard Review. In all, Dickey has been published in nearly 100 literary journals.

His chapbook, “What Wisconsin Took”, was published in 2006. His first full-length book of poetry, “They Say This Is How Death Came Into the World,” was published in 2011.

Besides writing, Dickey teaches philosophy at Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, Neb.
