Art exhibit honors Black History Month

A special exhibit in honor of Black History Month, “BSA Clay Connections,” will be on display Feb. 18-22 in the Second Floor Gallery of Porter Hall on the Pittsburg State University campus.

The exhibit is a joint effort of the Office of Student Diversity and the University Art Association. The goal, according to S. Portico Bowman, gallery director, and Maria Grothaus, of the Office of Student Diversity, is to create an expressive opportunity for the modern African American student.

The students whose work will be shown participated in a three-hour workshop conducted by Bowman and Malcolm Kucharski, a member of the Art Department faculty. The instructors were aided by students from the University Art Association.

A reception for the artists will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20, in the Second Floor Gallery.

The gallery is open from 8 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Friday. For more information, call the Department of Art at 620-235-4302.
