Concert features music of the Americas

The Pittsburg State University Chamber Orchestra plans to take concertgoers on a tour of North and South America at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1, in PSU’s McCray Hall.

The orchestra’s program includes pieces from the U.S., Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Cuba, according to director Raúl A. Munguía.

“It will be a relaxed, fun atmosphere,” Munguía said. “We will perform styles like ragtime, tangos, boleros, mariachi, South American folk dances and more modern standard arrangements.”

The concert will feature guest artist Hector David Aguilar, a Honduran-American violinist. Aguilar will not only perform as a soloist with the ensemble, but will also teach private and master classes for students during his visit to Pittsburg.

The concert is free and a reception will follow in the McCray Hall lobby.
