"
A lot of people say you need to go to a big school to get a degree or find a job, but even a small school like PSU can help you achieve your dreams."
~ Rohan Ratnapal, graduate student

As a former rock music promoter in India, graduate student Rohan Ratnapal knew that when it came to finding an internship in the American entertainment industry, he needed to think big.

"One thing I learned in college in India was that a person should work for the best, and expect only the best," said Ratnapal, who came to PSU three years ago to pursue dual graduate degrees in technology management and mass communication. "In the media and music industries in the United States, that's MTV."

An adventure-lover who knows no fear, Rohan didn't hesitate to apply for a summer internship with the media giant. Drawn to his personality and experience in both music promotion and graphic design, MTV hired him immediately. He spent this past summer in New York City, working as a web page designer for the company at their Times Square headquarters.

In addition to rebuilding web sites for MTV and meeting celebrities such as Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, he spent those months making connections with producers and hosts of shows such as Jersey Shore, MTV Cribs, VH1 Classic, That Metal Show, and more.

"The main idea of internships is not only to get work experience, but also to network," said Ratnapal, who hopes to use those new connections to find a full-time job in New York. "Ultimately I'd love to work in entertainment, traveling between New York and India. I grew up in a city of more than 3 million, so I'm very comfortable in that environment."

The southeast Kansas university he has grown to love, however, has been a great fit as well.

"A lot of people say you need to go to a big school to get a degree or find a job, but even a small school like PSU can help you achieve your dreams," said Ratnapal, who praises the work of the Office of Admission, where he worked throughout his years as a grad student. "The faculty have guided me on how to do things the right way, and my co-workers have given me an excellent impression and experience in America."
