When nearly 1,000 PSU students gathered at the Weede PE Building for the Big Event community service project on Saturday, the forecast was pretty awful. Forecasters expected the storms that rolled through the area in the early morning hours to continue for much of the day -- not the best weather for raking leaves, painting and cleaning gutters.
Organizers of the event gave the student volunteers the option of taking a chance that the weather would improve or rescheduling their work with the homeowners for a clearer day. As it turned out, those who rolled the dice ended up working in almost ideal spring weather.
There were no losers, however, as the work scheduled at the 110 Pittsburg homes will all get done, just on a different schedule than originally planned.
