A popular character actor will soon visit Pittsburg State University to share his passion for living green.
Ed Begley, Jr., who has appeared in dozens of television shows and movies ranging from “St. Elsewhere” to “Pineapple Express,” will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, in the Crimson and Gold Ballroom in Overman Student Center.
“He’s popular for being an actor and TV personality, but he’s also an environmental activist and has been for many, many years,” said Edie McCracken, program coordinator for campus activities. “Now he’s traveling the country going to college campuses and talking about how people can make simple changes to their lives to be more green and more environmentally aware.”
Begley has been an environmentalist since 1970 when he bought his first electric vehicle. Now he either rides a hybrid electric bicycle or drives a Toyota RAV4 that has been modified to run purely on electricity.
In addition to appearances on the television show “Gary Unmarried,” Begley and his family star in a reality show titled “Living With Ed,” which documents their attempts to live a green lifestyle. The show originated on HGTV and now airs on the Planet Green channel.
Begley’s presentation is free and open to all. It is sponsored by the Performing Arts and Lecture Series and the Leadership Institute.
