Anti-Virus Software
The campus uses Symantec Anti-Virus Enterprise software to protect campus resources against viruses. Your Technical Support Consultant will install the client software on your computer and current virus definitions are pushed to your computer via the campus Symantec Antivirus servers. OIS downloads the latest definitions from Symantec on a daily basis.
With the latest anti-virus, computers are scanned weekly to detect any known issues. This has been scheduled to happen during the night on Tuesdays. If you turn off your computer the scan will occur when you turn it on Wednesday morning. You should be able to work with the scan running, but could experience some slowness. If you would like to avoid the Wednesday morning scans you should leave your computer on overnight, but log off.
When the scan runs you may receive a message that the scan found a virus. Most times this virus will already be disabled, but you should notify your technical support consultant so they ensure your computer is safe. You may also receive a message that your definitions aren't current; once again contact your tech.
