The Only American Chemical Society Approved Department Within 90 Miles of Pittsburg
Changes are happening during the Spring 2013 semester. The chemistry faculty offices are being remodeled to make room for new faculty. During this time, all faculty offices and the Chemistry Department office have be relocated to Whitesitt Hall in the office complex, room 225, on the second floor. Check the 'Faculty and Staff' link to the left to find the faculty office room number.All of the Chemistry laboratory classes will continue to meet in Heckert-Wells Hall.

The Department of Chemistry prepares students for careers in science, chemical engineering, pharmacy, or chemistry teaching through Departmental degree programs, pre-engineering, teacher education, and other University programs that require rigorous training in chemistry. The Department also contributes to effective general education and to outreach to K-12 teachers of science working through the Science Education Center. All programs are systematically assessed for effectiveness and revised to continuously improve both rigor and relevance.
The Department of Chemistry provides excellence in education that conforms to high standards recommended by the American Chemical Society for careers as chemists, technicians, educators, forensic scientists, or in related roles, including stewardship of the environment, promoting safety, and good citizenship. Our faculty and students make significant contributions to the profession, the body of scientific knowledge, and to the region. We also recognize the need for adequate facilities, modern instrumentation, and frequent, well planned assessments in every phase of learning to improve or maintain student learning. Solicitation of outside funding is especially critical for providing expensive equipment, supporting research activities, and for enabling travel for both professional development and reporting to the scientific community.
